These days, nobody wants to leave footprints for Google – marketers are getting more and more cautious about link building. Links play a major role in organic rankings; link acquisition needs to be content driven and natural. Here are a few guidelines to keep link building safe:

Focus on the Audience

Publishing content to four people daily is not going to help you make it big; but having 50000 subscribers will automatically augment the number of shares.

Try Placing Content Where It Would Read

Which websites should have your content? The ones which enjoy credibility amongst readers; have quality comments and people share their articles often; the number of followers of the website and its association with celebrities or other famous sites also matters.

Create Outstanding Content

Better the quality of your post, more the chances of it being featured by the publisher; submit interactive, creative pieces with well researched content. Before you start writing your piece, think about the readership of the publisher. Who are they? What would they be interested in? Know your target audience before starting-off.

Pieces by authoritative authors win more engagement than pieces submitted by anonymous contributors; try finding authors with substantial social presence as their following would automatically boost visits on your website

Drive Traffic on Your Website through Content

If your content is engaging, number of subscribers will augment after every published piece.

Never ignore the importance of “human touch” in your pieces. The more links, co-citations, social shares and quality comments your pieces have, the more effective they become.

Anchor Text

Keep things natural – link to informative URLs where necessary; don’t risk linking to top target money pages all the time.

Pieces submitted for the sake of SEO are usually not engaging – try avoiding terms like featured, advertorial, sponsored, paid and guest.

Keep the Topic Relevant

Google keeps on getting better and better at identifying relevant topics; incorporating dating links on a finance site seems unnatural and would decrease engagement levels.

Dig into analytics, conduct surveys, interview industry big-shots to deliver research-based content; try offering unique insights on data-driven articles.

Remember, innovation will make you stand out. What is your unique selling proposition when it comes to content? Are you different from your competitors? If you try to do everything using a fixed template, you will kill the creative genius inside you. Don’t get obsessed with the volume of links; less is more – try generating high quality links which are low in numbers.
