ABOUT
Tora Jamar Parks has been working with children for over twenty years. In 2000, Jamar completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University. In 2005, he received a Masters Degree in the Art of Teaching from the University of Saint Mary’s. Jamar went on to receive a Learning Disabilities Endorsement from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2010. For over a decade, Jamar has been a teacher, working with students at the elementary and high school levels. Most recently, he has worked with high school students who receive specialized educational services.
Over the years, Jamar has witnessed that students learn in a variety of ways and that some students need extra support to continue their learning outside of the classroom. Jamar witnessed firsthand the frustration his parents experienced because they were not familiar with the concepts being taught in the classroom and were not able to truly explain to their child how or why certain things work the way they do. Many parents gave up on explaining a process or concept and told their child the answers simply because they themselves were not able to show their child how to complete their homework.
After listening to the frustrations of parents and working with students in the specialized student services department, Jamar decided to create The Take Home Teacher, with the goal of improving students' academic ability inside and outside of the classroom.
